January. Dark. Cold. Nothing much to look forward to Lack of motivation. Next race too far ahead. Quite depressing really.
BUT let's change this with an adventure in spectacular environment along the Gothic trail on eastern Gotland !
When Sweden is showing its worst side we invite you to an exclusive trail adventure on the island of Gotland - Saturday Jan 15th the 1st edition of GotRun Winter Trail 2022- takes place. An experience we'll do our best for you to remember. Hopefully the weather will offer minus degrees, windy conditions & lots of rain = toughest possible! However, there is rarely any ice & snow on the ground in Gotland in January, soft & nice terrain = possibly the best running conditions in Sweden this time of year!
Our ambition is to gather a great bunch of ultra runners (rookies of course also welcome) one weekend on the island to run together & chill our. Fantastic trails, food & drinks, all with a touch of Gotland. It will be interesting conversations & lots of shared experiences & tips. In addition all participants will get insights about the fascinating history of the east coast of Gotland, where you will follow the dramatic Gothic trail.
Obviously this is a race & winners will be celebrated & medals given, but the focus is not the actual race but the experience on Gotland in a season which you normally don't associate with Gotland.
We will all run the race for charity with the Swedish Child Diabetes Foundation Barndiabetesfonden as beneficiary;
part of the registration fee will be donated. The foundation supports research aimed at preventing, curing or alleviating diabetes in children & adolescents.
Our ambitionen is to make this an annual event on Gotland, not necessarily on the same place every year.
Base camp for the race is the cosy seaside resort Ljugarn at the east coast of Gotland. We cooperate with several accommodation alternatives & together with the residents of Ljugarn, they all welcome us runners to the island!
The race is Saturday Jan 15th (the distance "Dubble" 144km starts already Friday Jan 29th) & the majority of the course follow the new Östkustleden with an extra loop of great trail in the woods of Ljugarn. Östkustleden starts in Anga Prästänge & follow the shore line with varying surfaces - gravel, stones, asphalt, sand & forest trails. This trail is marked with orange signs on stones/trees/poles.
We offer 3 distances:
KORTE: 35 km (start Sat 15/1 kl. 11:00) = 1 ITRA point
ENKLE: 72 km (start Sat 15/1 kl. 07:00) = 3 ITRA points
DUBBLE: 144 km (start Fri 14/1 kl. 21:00) = 4 ITRA points This is a back-2-back course.
Max number of participants totally all distances: 50 st
